Kerala: Two picked up for online film piracy

The gang was tracked by a team led by anti-piracy cell DySP M. Iqbal by tracing their mobile phone signals.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The anti-piracy cell of Kerala Police has taken into custody two persons from Coimbatore in connection with spreading of pirated versions of new movies including Pulimurugan on the internet. Coimbatore natives Sateesh Srini, 28, and Bhuvanesh, 34, suspected to be Indian administrators of the portal Torrent on which the pirated copies of movies were being uploaded, were picked up on Wednesday. They were suspected to be carrying out the illegal activities under the cover of a film editing studio.

The anti-piracy cell also conducted raids at their offices and residences at Coimbatore and Chennai and recovered seven laptop computers, four hard disks, one camera, seven wi-fi routers, one desktop computer and Rs 24,000 in cash. The police were probing into the role of more persons in the racket, which is suspected to have international links.
