Hyderabad: Couple held for tenant's suicide

House owner, wife in judicial custody.

Hyderabad: A day after a woman committed suicide alleging harassment by her house owner, the Kukatpally police arrested Prasanna Kumar Reddy and his wife Snehalatha, the owners of the house.

Kumar, a techie working in an MNC in Madhapur, and his wife were absconding. Kumar had allegedly assaulted the victim and tried to throw her family out of the house when her husband was not there.

The police has booked a case for abetment of suicide against them. Both of them were remanded to judicial custody. Police said that based on victim Sujatha’s writing on the wall, which is considered a suicide note, they booked a case under Section 306. “Her husband also filed a complaint alleging the same things she wrote on the wall,” said inspector K. Purushotham.

Besides Sunday night’s assault, her husband Rama Krishna alleged that Kumar and his wife had been harassing the couple since many weeks asking them to get out of the house. Kumar was not ready to grant time for the couple to find another flat.

“Kumar had been trying to expel them as he did not like Sujatha’s kids making noise in the house. He was not ready to wait till they found a house," said a police officer. On Sunday night, when her husband was away, Kumar went to Sujatha’s house and verbally abused her. She alleged in her suicide note that he had also assaulted her.

“House owner Prasa-nna Kumar is responsible for my death. He came and assaulted me when my husband was not at home. My death should bring punishment to him,” said Sujatha’s message scribbled before her suicide.”
