PU student found dead in hostel toilet

The deceased has been identified as Sarthak Puranik, a native of Dharwad and the student of Chaitanya Techno College.

BENGALURU: A 17-year-old second PU student was found dead in a toilet of a college hostel under mysterious circumstances on Saturday in Bellandur police station limits.

The deceased has been identified as Sarthak Puranik, a native of Dharwad and the student of Chaitanya Techno College. Sarthak was pursuing second PU at the college and residing at a hostel on the college premises for the past two years.

On Saturday morning at around 6.20 am, Sarthak went to the toilet, but did not even after several hours. As more students began to use the toilets, they noticed one in which Sarthak was present had remained closed for a long time.

Without any clue about what would have happened inside, the students started to call out for the person inside the toilet but there was no response. As they grew suspicious, one of the students peeped through the window only to find Sarthak lying on the floor.

The panic stricken students alerted the hostel staff, who later broke open the toilet door of the toilet and rushed Sarthak to a nearby hospital, where he was declared brought dead.

The hostel in-charge then informed the Bellandur police about the incident. The police reached the spot and shifted the body to St. John’s Hospital.

“Prima facie, there were no signs of assault or, external injuries on the body of the deceased. The post-mortem was carried out after Sarthak’s parents arrived from Dharwad and the body was handed over to them. We have registered the case under UDR and are awaiting the post-mortem report to ascertain the cause of death,” the police said. Sarthak was the son of Shrikant Puranik, an hotelier, and Suchitra Puranik.
