Last year’s murder mystery of geriatric couple solved

VIJAWAYADA: Bapatla police arrested two men for murder of a geriatric couple on November 19, 2021 at Pusapadu in Inkollu mandal of Bapatla district.

Bapatla SP Vakul Jindal disclosed that Alavalapati Anitha had lodged a complaint after the murder of her parents Ramatulasamma and Hanumantha Rao. Ramatulasamma’s gold earrings had been pulled away from her ears after the murder. Police registered a case and started their investigations.

Jindal said they have resolved the case with the arrest of two persons – Kuchipudi Rajakumar alias Luther of Munipalle village in Ponnur mandal of Guntur district and Kancharla Praveen Kumar alias Praveen @ Kumar @ Appam of Intoor village in Amartalur mandal of Bapatla district.

Rajakumar had been in a relationship with murdered couple’s daughter Anitha over past few years while she had been staying with her parents. Ramatulasamma had known about the relationship. Later, Anita left for Vadlamudi village, where she became friendly with another person. This had not been to the liking of Rajakumar. He told Ramatulasamma to stop Anitha from meeting the other person. However, she supported her daughter. This led to Rajakumar developing a grudge against her.

On the night of November 19 last year, he arrived at Ramatulasamma’s house in Pusapadu on a bullet bike with his friend Praveen Kumar carrying a coconut-cutting knife. They entered the house and Rajakumar first killed Ramatulasamma’s husband Hanumantha Rao, whose legs were held by Praveen to prevent him from moving. Likewise, he killed Ramatulasamma too. Rajakumar then cut her ear lobes and took her gold earrings away.

The double murder case got resolved after police took up investigations. SP Jindal has appreciated the police team that investigated the case.
