New Delhi: Servant decamps with cash, jewellery after drugging woman

Shiva prepared tea for Pushpa and the other two people and the three fell unconscious after consuming the tea.

New Delhi: An elderly lady and her househelps were drugged by a newly-hired servant who decamped with cash and jewellery along with his two accomplices in northwest Delhi's Model Town area, police said on Friday.

The incident took place around 4 pm when Pushpa Bhasin was at home along with her driver and a servant while her family members were away, police said.

"According to the family, the servant who had told the family that his name is Shiva, arrived in the afternoon with two of his friends. He had been hired three-four days back by the family and there was no police verification done for him," said Vijay Singh, DCP (northwest).

Shiva prepared tea for Pushpa and the other two people and the three fell unconscious after consuming the tea.

"Shiva had mixed some sedative in the tea that he prepared. While the three were unconscious, Shiva and his two friends stole the cash and jewellery kept at home," said the officer.

When the servant and the driver regained consciousness, they took Pushpa to the nearby Pentamed Hospital and by that time, her daughter who stays nearby also arrived. They registered a complaint against Shiva and his accomplices, police said.

The family hasn't yet given the list of the items that were stolen so the police isn't sure of the loss.

Shiva had told the family that he belongs to Bihar, the officer said, adding that there were no CCTV cameras installed inside the house. A case under relevant sections has been registered and probe has begun, police said.
