Kerala: Rape suspect ends life as victim flees
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A 51-year-old rape suspect committed suicide after his 10-year-old victim escaped at Kovalam on the outskirts of Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday evening. The police found a freshly dug burial pit next to his house. The victim, a girl pursuing her Class VI was admitted to SAT hospital with serious injuries. Chandra Babu of Malayil house, Vellar picked up his neighbour who returned from school after an examination. He sexually violated the girl who lost consciousness during the act. The suspect left her assuming she was dead, but the survivor got up and ran to her family.
They admitted her to the hospital and local police was alerted. Kovalam police who reached the place found the man hanging from the ceiling of his residence. They recovered victim’s school bag and a pair of dress which had gone missing a few days back. Officials believe that the man had been plotting the crime for the last few days. The body will be sent for autopsy only on Friday and forensic experts have gathered evidence, said Fort assistant commissioner K.C. Gopakumar.
