Tirupati: TTD vigilance sleuths on Thursday rescued a nine-month-old baby girl from a suspected woman kidnapper in Tirumala.

According to officials, a woman in her 40s allegedly tried to take away the baby, identified as Suparnika, while she was playing beside her parents sleeping in an open hall in Pilgrims Amenities Complex-I here.

The parents who woke up found the baby missing and started searching for her. Vigilance sleuths, alerted by a contract worker, swung into action and nabbed the suspect while she was on the run.

The baby girl was handed over to her parents Subbaiah and Priyadarsini, who hail from Chennai. The sleuths later handed over the suspect to the police, and she is being questioned.

It was learnt that the suspect identified herself as Padma from Ongole and later said she was Lakshmi from Nellore. The police is checking her background.
