Telangana resident lands in Qatar jail

While leaving for Qatar the agent reportedly handed over to him two packets of drugs.

HYDERABAD: A Hyderabad man is jailed at Doha in Qatar for allegedly carrying drugs. Shaik Sikander, a resident of Noorinagar in Chandrayangutta, left for Doha on June 20 in search of a job. While leaving for Qatar from Mumbai, the agent, Razaaq, reportedly handed over to him two packets. As soon as he landed at the airport, officials detained him on charges of carrying drugs. He is detained at the jail since then, his elder brother, Shaik Irfan, said.

Sikander is allowed to talk to his family over the phone once in a week. “He is very depressed and is crying whenever he speaks to us,” his brother said. The family has now requested the Union minister for external affairs and Telangana minister for NRI affairs to intervene to secure his release. The family approached Majlis Bachao Tehreek spokesperson Amjedullah Khan, who has taken up the case to the authorities.
