Police clueless on Kochi ATM robbers

A case has been registered at the Trikkakara police station and the probe is being headed by Assistant Police Commissioner M Binoy.

Kochi: Two youths who were caught on CCTV camera trying to loot money from an Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) at Vazhakala near Kakkanad two days ago are still at large with the cops expanding their probe to neighbouring states. “We have got their CCTV images which have been faxed to all police stations across the state. We have also alerted police stations of neighbouring states which lie along the border,” a senior police officer said.

A case has been registered at the Trikkakara police station and the probe is being headed by Assistant Police Commissioner M Binoy. The youths reached the ATM of Syndicate Bank at Vazhakala at 1.25 AM on Saturday. One of them wearing a helmet was seen entering the ATM cabin and applying spray paint on three CCTV cameras. However, he failed to notice another small CCTV camera placed at one corner.

The images show him getting out and entering the cabin after removing his helmet. His friend too is seen following him. Though the duo managed to break the front portion of the machine, they failed to take out the money. “The bid was the second one in the Kakkanad area in the last one week. Earlier a similar robbery attempt was done at the Union Bank ATM at Olippuram. However, so far such bids have never succeeded,” he said.
