Chennai: Girl gets slashed by former friend
Chennai: Less than 2 months after Swathi's murder, a 20-year-old engineering graduate, undergoing an apprenticeship with a leading private electrical company in Pallavaram, suffered cut injuries on her arm when she came under attack from her boyfriend, Karunakaran (23), who works in an IT firm in Porur, on Monday evening.
Sources said the victim is a distant relative of the man and is said to have been avoiding him for about a week. Karunakaran, who had come to the office premises of the girl, met her when she left from work. She chided him for coming up to her workplace.
The duo walked along the Old Sandhai when the techie reportedly abused her as being in a relationship with someone else and the girl responded with a slap on his face with her footwear.
Enraged, Karunakaran pulled out a pocket sized paper cutting knife. He tried to slash her with it in full public view and cut her in her left hand. As she raised an alarm, passersby stepped in to her rescue. People pinned him down and alerted the control room.
The Pallavaram police patrol team, which responded to the distress call, picked up the youth besides rushing the girl to a private hospital in the vicinity.
The doctors who treated her told the cops that the cuts weren't deep and that she was out of danger. The youth claimed that they were both married for a couple of years and that he and the girl had grown apart over a period of time, which he attributed to her new grown passion towards another man. The girl denied having married him or having to do anything more with him than being friendly with him. Karunakaran was being quizzed in a moving patrol vehicle late on Monday evening to avoid media glare.
