Tiruvarur: Gang of 6 robs woman at home

The gang threatened the victim at knifepoint and stole her jewelry.

Tiruvarur: In a daring incident, an unidentified six-member gang robbed jewels and other valuables from a 35-year-old woman at knifepoint at Tiruvarur on Sunday.

Police said the victim Lakshmi was alone in her house located on the Tiruvarur-Nagapattinam bypass road, where she usually stays with her son, when the burglary took place.

Apparently taking advantage of the fact that her son had gone out, a three-member gang entered the hapless woman's house, even as three others were sitting in a car parked very close to the victim's house, police said.

The gang threatened the victim at knifepoint and stole her jewelry. The miscreants also forced the victim to open the steel almairah and took away other jewels kept in the safe, an ATM card, and an expensive mobile phone.

Before fleeing the scene in the car waiting outside, they tied the hands and legs of the victim and closed her mouth with a piece of cloth. The victim’s son on returning home was shocked to see his mother tied to one end of the room and and informed the Tiruvarur police. Police rushed to the spot with fingerprint experts and are investigating.
