Hyderabad: Scolded, engineering student ends life

Hyderabad: Upset at being scolded by his father in front of the college faculty for poor academics, an engineering student committed suicide in Ibrahimpatnam on Saturday. Police said Kanigiri Bala Venkata Chaitanya, 21, jumped from the third floor of the college building, sustained multiple injuries and succumbed while undergoing treatment. The deceased is the son of Srinivas, a Special Branch constable here. Chaitanya, a resident of Saroornagar, was studying III year mechanical engineering in Sri Indu Engineering College in Ibrahimpatnam. He has backlogs in 18 subjects in the first two years of engineering.

On Saturday, his father came to the college to meet the Principal and other lecturers to inquire about his academics. He was also in the principal’s room when his father was discussing.

“ While they were still discussing, chaitanya walked out of the room and jumped down from the building. It was found that Mr Srinivas came to the college by himself to inquire about his son’s academics” Ibrahimpatnam Inspector V Swamy said.Chaitanya sustained multiple injuries on his head and other parts and also broke his limbs due to the fall. He was rushed to a private hospital in LB nagar, where he succumbed to injuries. Based on his father’s complaint, a suspicious death case is registered and the body was handed over to his family after the autopsy.
