Hyderabad: Monda Market police arrested a man for allegedly raping his 16-year-old niece.
According to police, the accused Bandari Ilaiah (26) on June 2 had eloped with the minor girl and got married to her in Mahanandi in Kurnool district. Both were in love for the last three years. When the girl’s parents refused her plea for marrying IIlaiah, they eloped, the police said.
“Ilaiah was in constant touch with us on the phone but we did not know that the girl was a minor. On receiving a complaint from the victim's father, who alleged that his daughter was kidnapped by the accused on June 2, we registered a case of kidnapping,” E. Shekar, additional inspector of Monda Market police said.
“As the girl was a minor, we registered a case of rape under section 376 IPC and remanded him to judicial custody,” Shekar further said.
