HC issues contempt notice to Centre on ATR over hate talk

Case rekates to non-compliance of HC orders to stop trending of Islamaphobia messages

Hyderabad: A Division Bench of the Telangana High Court comprising Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice B. Vijaysen Reddy on Wednesday issued notice to the Union home secretary, in a contempt case alleging non-compliance of High Court orders regarding to stopping of trending of Islamaphobia messages on social network platforms like Twitter etc.
The court directed them to respond to it within six weeks.
In a petition filed by Khaja Aijazuddin, who requested the court to stop illegal trending on Twitter Inc's social network, under the names of Islamiccoronavirusjihad, Tablighijamat, Islamophobia, and others.
On April 22, 2021, the then Chief Justice Hima Kholi and Justice B. Vijayasen Reddy asked home secretary, ministry of home affairs, government of India, to evaluate the averments made in the petition and take necessary actions, if regarded expedient, as envisioned by law.
A contempt case was filed stating that the orders of the court were not complied with.
