Hyderabad: She Teams prevented three child marriages on Thursday. Officials rescued the minors and counselled the parents. She Teams are actively trying to put an end to child marriages. Parents who get their minor children married are liable to pay a fine of Rs 1 lakh, be imprisoned for a period of two years, or both. She Teams received a tip-off about the impending marriage of a 13-year-old girl to a 19-year-old boy in Turkapally village on Saturday.

The She Team of Bhongir immediately rushed to the minor’s house in Dharmaram village, counselled her parents, and prevented the marriage. In another case, a 17-year-old girl from Mulkalpally village in Turkapally mandal of Yadadri district was going to be married to a 24-year-old man from Singaram Village in Rajapet mandal on May 14.

Based on a tip-off, the police arrived at the girl’s house and counselled the parents of the bride and the bridegroom. The parents agreed to wait until the girl turned 18 to perform the marriage. In a third incident, a 15-year-old student of class VII was about to get married to a 24-year-old man from Medchal on May 24. A She Team arrived at the spot and convinced her parents to wait until she attained legal marriageable age.
