Telangana: Larsen & Toubro is booked for negligence

Engineering major Larsen & Toubro has been booked for civic negligence in the city.

Hyderabad: Engineering major Larsen & Toubro has been booked for civic negligence in the city. Two complaints have been registered separately at Jubilee Hills and S. R Nagar Police station by GHMC central zone officials. As per the complaints, the company has been charged with overshooting the deadline for a road project and for leaving a dug-up portion of the road unbarricaded thereby creating a death trap for commuters. This is the second time that a government agency has booked a case against L&T for negligence.

Ms Hari Chandana Dasari, central zone municipal commissioner said, “L&T was asked to execute and complete the digging work at Yousuf-guda 10 days back. This patch of the road connects Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills and Sri Nagar Colony. They have cut open the road to lay electrical lines. Though the deadline for the completion of the work was over 10 days back, the job still remains incomplete. On Thursday, officials noted that a large open trench had been left unattended. We found no barricades, no signboard and no requisite precautions. This civic negligence could cause grievous damage to the public. With the monsoons starting, water would fill up the trench misleading commuters and turning this into a death trap.”

Earlier too the GHMC had booked cases against L&T Fibre Network. It was GHMC, which had to fill in the trench for public safety. Jubilee Hills inspector Mr. Venkat Reddy said, “The complaint was filed by an assistant engineer of GHMC against L&T. The complaint is regarding the civic negligence at the Yousufguda ward office. A case for creating mischief causing damage and for causing public property damage have been registered. L & T officials are yet to respond.
