Kolkata man cheats Hyderabadi woman on matrimonial website, held
Hyderabad: The Central Crime Station police arrested a Kolkata native for cheating a Hyderabadi woman through a matrimonial website.
Tanmay Goswami, 40, a tax consultant at Mumbai, allegedly took Rs 5.3 lakh from the victim promising to marry her. They had met through bharatmatrimony.com.
According to police, Goswami introduced himself as Hemant Gupta and claimed to be an official with the Central Board of Direct Tax at Bengaluru.
“They exchanged phone numbers and started chatting through WhatsApp. They made video calls and got close to each other. He promised to marry her also. He convinced her that she could buy a flat in Bengaluru before the wedding. The woman transferred Rs 5.2 lakh to his account,” said a senior official from Central Crime Station.
After the deal he started avoiding her calls. The woman lodged a complaint with Hyderabad police, who booked a case, and arrested the man in Mumbai.
