Hyderabad: 29-year-old arrested for alleged rape of 16-year-old
Hyderabad: The Asif Nagar police on Monday arrested a man who allegedly raped a 16-year-old in a different district. The accused, identified as Md Azeem, 29, and the victim reportedly knew each other. “Azeem and the victim worked together at a stationery shop for two years,” said assistant commissioner of police Ashok Chakravarthy.
The accused had grown close to the victim over a year, but since the victim belongs to a different community, her parents had warned the accused, Chakravarthy said. On April 23, the accused reportedly took the victim to Karimnagar and they stayed there for two days, with the accused introducing the victim to his friends as his wife Zoha.
The same day, the victim’s father filed a kidnapping complaint, saying his daughter had been lured away by Azeem. After their stay at Karimanagar, the accused and the victim returned to Hyderabad, and on April 27, went to Nizamabad. The accused made sure the victim wore a burkha and introduced her as his wife, staying with her for seven days in a room near a dargah.
Using mobile tracking software, Asif Nagar police tracked the victim to Nizamabad dargah on May 6, and she was brought back to Hyderabad. An investigation revealed that she had been raped both at Karimnagar and Nizamabad.
The accused managed to flee on May 6, but was arrested on Monday from Jubilee bus station. Asif Nagar police have charged him with kidnapping and rape under the Pocso Act.
