Four acquitted in Kollam murder case

The public prosecutor said the decision will be appealed in a higher court.

KOLLAM: The Kollam additional sessions court has acquitted all four accused in the murder of Anil, 38, of Azheekkal. However, the prime accused Hyder Farook, 26, of Tsunami colony in Mayyanad, was convicted for robbing the valuables including camera, mobile phone, and laptop from the victim, and was handed a two-year prison term.

The public prosecutor said the decision will be appealed in a higher court. "The court depended on circumstantial evidences and DNA test to substantiate the charges as there were no witnesses in the case. Two of the witnesses turned hostile during the trail," he said. Anil was found murdered in May 2012 with his throat slit. He was living alone in a quarters in Thangasseri.

According to the chargesheet, Anil, who was a homosexual, was in a sexual relationship with Hyder Farook. But when the latter found out what Anil was HIV-infected, he conspired with other three accused and murdered Anil and looted his valuables.
