Chennai: Gold valued at Rs 18 lakh was recovered from a man at the Meenambakkam Metro railway station during a baggage scan by security personnel on Monday.
The man, Ajmath Hasan Farooz Khan (22), had entered the station with a bag at 11.30 am. Security personnel at the station detected the metal inside the bag during scanning, an official said. Upon search, 330 gram of gold ornaments were recovered from the bag in the presence of senior Metro officials.
The Meenambakkam paolice were alerted and Farooz was handed over to them. As he could not produce any valid document with regard to the gold, the ornaments were handed over to the Alandur government treasury, police said.
