SP Sunpreet Singh's car runs over woman at Asifabad
Mancherial: A 65-year-old woman died when the car in which SP Sunpreet Singh, of Kumaram Bheem Asifabad, hit her near Repallewada in Tandur mandal on Saturday.
The SP entered the wrong side and hit Sharada, who was waiting for a bus to Asifabad. The SP’s vehicle took a U-turn, skidded from the left to the right side of the road and went into bushes.
The SP informed the police and left the scene after the police arrived. In the meantime, policemen from nearby Rebbena and Thandur police stations reached the scene to control the situation. Mancherial DCP John Wesley and Bellampalli ACP Chennaiah visited the scene and tried to pacify irate relatives of the deceased and villagers.
The families of the dead demanded that the police give a government job to a family member of the deceased and pay Rs 20 lakh ex gratia. Police officials said they could not make any promises. SP Sunpreet Singh told DC that he was at the scene until the police and an ambulance reached the spot and the body was shifted Bellampalli hospital. He said the incident took place while trying to avoid a head-on collision with a vehicle and to save the life of the driver of that vehicle. Mr Singh said they would try their best to help the family of the deceased family if they approached the police with a request. The Mancherial collector also promised help.
