Imam Shafeek Al Qasimi sent to 14 days judicial custody

The Imam meanwhile is learnt to have admitted that he had sexually assaulted the girl misusing his influence on the girls' family.

Thiruvananthapuram: Nedumangad Judicial court on Friday remanded former Imam of Tholikode Muslim Jama Ath, Shafeek Al Qasimi, who was accused of raping a 14-year-old minor girl, for 14 days in judicial custody.

The Imam meanwhile is learnt to have admitted that he had sexually assaulted the girl misusing his influence on the girls’ family. He is also learnt to have given a statement that he had threatened the girl of dire consequences if she revealed about the harassment to anyone.

The High Court on Friday allowed the 14-year-old survivor in the Imam sexual assault case to return home with her mother.

The Imam also admitted to the police that he had engaged in a verbal duet with the Kudumbashree workers working under employment guarantee scheme near forest region at Peppara, as he reached the spot in a car along with the girl a month ago.

While issuing the final order on Friday afternoon, High Court judges Annie John and Harikumar said the girl who was put under the protection of the Child Welfare Committee can return.
