Man thrashes wife for switching off Wi-Fi in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: Annoyed with his wife over a lost Wi-Fi connection, a man brutally thrashed his wife allegedly after she switched off the router in the house in the night in Somajiguda on Wednesday.
Even as International Women’s Day is being celebrated over the globe, 30-year-old Reshma Sultana was mercilessly beaten up by her husband for something as petty as disconnecting an internet connection. She is undergoing treatment at a hospital.
Reshma was married to Omer Pasha six years ago and the couple have three daughters. The family lives in Makhta area in Somajiguda.
Panjagutta police inspector S. Ravinder said that since it is a case of marital dispute, the family and relatives are trying to patch things up. If that does not work out, the case will be referred to the women’s police station for counselling and a case will be registered if necessary.
Reshma switched off the Wi-Fi connection because her husband was surfing the internet till late. Incensed, he picked up a piece of wood and beat her on the chest, face and head, police said. Reshma’s mother lodged a complaint with the Panjagutta police. “He beat me near the ear, eye, on my neck, head and chest. I ran out of the house,” she said.
Old City-based organisation Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT) spokesperson Amjad Ullah Khan was assisting the victim’s family on legal and medical fronts. He said that Omer had been harassing Reshma for a long time.
Police booked the man under Sections 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 341 (wrongful restraint), and 498 A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) of the IPC.
