Rape victims to be shifted to Nirbhaya homes by CWC of Kozhikode
Kalpetta: The Child Welfare Committee of Kozhikode which took charge of the Wayanad CWC the other day visited the seven girls subjected to prolonged sexual abuse by a gang.
Police had registered 11 cases against six men on Tuesday for sexually abusing and raping the girl students, inmates of an orphanage in Kalpetta, and persecuting them mentally and physically since December.
The CWC informed the destitute home authorities that they are planning to remove all the seven to the Nirbhaya home at Kaniyampatta considering their security.
There were reports that moves are afoot by the kith and kin of the accused to pressurise the victims to change their statements.
The orphanage authorities also are supportive of the move as they were under pressure from the community for taking a progressive stand.
Meanwhile, police would move the district court seeking their custody for the purpose holding an identification parade next week.
The incident came to light when a security staff of the orphanage found a girl on the premises of a shop nearby in the odd hours on Saturday.
