Thoppumpaddy police book case in girl's death

The girl was administered with a dose of Cefprioxone after a test dose.

KOCHI: Thoppumpaddy police on Thursday registered a case in the death of a teen-age girl at Karuvelipady government hospital on Wednesday allegedly due to medical negligence after the girl’s relatives lodged a complaint. “We have recorded statement of the relatives and registered a case under section 174 (non-attendance in obedience to an order from public servant). Further probe is on and we will consider lodging cases against specific persons only after that,” the police said.

Aishwarya, 18, daughter of Sudheer, Pullikka Pararambu, Edakochi, was administered five to six injections on Monday after admitted in the hospital. As she collapsed, she was shifted to a private hospital in the city but her life could not be saved. District Medical Officer N.K. Kuttappan said that as per the initial report given by the hospital superintendent the death was perhaps caused due
to drug reaction.

The girl was administered with a dose of Cefprioxone after a test dose. Corporation health committee chairperson V.K Minimol said that a detailed report has been sought from the superintendent. Meanwhile, the relatives of the girl along with local residents held a protest meet in front of the hospital on Thursday.
