Rs 18 lakh property seized from burglar

The accused would remove the window grills and glass panes from the bathrooms of locked houses and enter them at odd hours.

Hyderabad: Abdul Zaheer, a 20-year-old offender notorious for committing thefts by entering locked houses via bathroom windows, was arrested by the Cyberabad police at Rajendranagar on Thursday. The police recovered property worth Rs 18 lakh from his possession. Zaheer was previously arrested in June last year.

On Sunday night, Mohammed Imran Khan, a techie from Upperpally, went to Masab Tank along with his family and returned late at night. When he came back, he noticed that gold jewellery weighing about 62 tolas as well as a few other articles had been stolen.

Police teams visited the spot and found that the offender had gained entry into the house through the bathroom window and decamped with the booty.

Cops looked into the records of serial offenders known to use similar modus operandi and zeroed-in on Zaheer, who was residing in Borabanda. They picked him up and upon enquiry, he confessed that he had committed the crime.

The police recovered gold jewellery weighing 62 tolas, silver articles, electronic gadgets and wrist watches worth '18 lakh in all from his possession and sent him to remand.

During a press meet, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Shamshabad, P.V. Padmaja, said that, Zaheer was a habitual offender who had been involved in several property offences in the past. She said that he would remove the window grills and glass panes from the bathrooms of locked houses and enter them at odd hours.

“He was previously arrested in June 2017 for his involvement in five thefts. After his release, he went on a property offence-committing spree,” the DCP said.
