Hyderabad: The Drugs Control Administration (DCA) raided Shakil Industries, a spurious mehendi manufacturing unit at Mehdipatnam, and arrested the organiser, Yousuf. DCA officials, who seized a large quantity of fake mehendi, said the unit was using a toxic chemical called picramic acid.
Picramic acid, a synthetic dye, is highly carcinogenic and should not be used in mehendi as per the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), the DCA said.
