Chennai: Murder attempt on Ramnad Zamin's heir
Chennai: City police on Sunday arrested a five-member gang, which allegedly attempted to murder the legal heir of Ramnad Zamin.
Teynampet police registered a case based on a complaint two weeks ago by RSV Karthik Sethupathi.
He said he was adopted by Vijaya Nachiar, elder daughter of the Ramnad Zamin Shanmuga Rajeshwara Naganatha Sethupathi in 1992 as a 12-year-old.
Kathik Sethupathi, who resides at Ganapathy Colony in Teynampet, filed a complaint against his relatives on December 18 claiming that they had administered two injections after threatening him at gun point after illegally detaining him at a hotel in Tirunelveli for three days. Karthik further claimed that he was rounded up by thugs from Tirunelveli and Chennai.
His relatives, Singampatti Zamindar Sankarathmajan and Surandai Zamin’s family member Sundar and his friend Sudhan had called for a meeting to settle things amicably when the incident happened.
He further stated in his complaint that his relatives had snatched '33 crore worth of antiques from his house.
Teynampet police, probing the complaint posted men in civvies who detained a gang loitering near Karthik’s house.
According to Karthik, Vijaya Nachiar formally registered him as her adopted son in 2013 in a city civil court and she died in December 2016 at the age of 87.
Meanwhile, on Sunday night, police arrested five persons found loitering suspiciously near Karthik’s house.
The five were identified as Prakash, 31, Raj Sundaram, 26, Arun Prasad, 30 Naresh Narayanan, 25 and Gurunathan, 31 all hired gang from Tirunelveli.
Police seized a pistol, 35 bullets and 40 sovereign gold jewellery from the gang.
