Hyderabad man nabbed for rape bid
Hyderabad: A 32-year-old man tried to rape a minor girl of his neighbourhood in SR Nagar, but the timely intervention of the child’s mother foiled his attempt.
The suspect, Md. Riyaz, entered the girl’s house taking advantage of the ties he had with the family when the 13-year-old girl was alone inside. As he started molesting the girl her mother came home and stopped him. Later, the SR Nagar police was informed. The suspect was arrested for attempted molestation.
The girl's mother said that Riyaz came into the house asking for water. The girl, who knew the man as he was their neighbour, went to take water without suspecting danger.
“Riyaz entered the house, followed the girl and allegedly grabbed her. As the girl tried to resist, he tried to overpower her. After a few seconds her mother walked into the house and saw the incident,” said SR Nagar inspector Md. Waheeduddin.
The incident occurred on Saturday at around 5 pm. The girl's mother and father had gone out for work. “The victim had come back from school and was alone at home. When Riyaz came to the front door she did not suspect danger,” said a police official. Police said that Riyaz, a driver, used to live next door to the victim's house earlier. He had moved to another house in the same neighbourhood. Earlier, he used to see the girl every day and greet her.
The police booked a case against Riyaz for outraging the modesty of the girl and as per the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO).
