Visakhapatnam: In a major breakthrough, Visakhapatnam city police have busted a complex network of individuals involved in collection, transportation and distribution of marijuana in multiple states.
The breakthrough came with arrest of Chevvakula Ramu on December 3 and confiscation of 6-kg Ganja from him. Ramu provided crucial information, leading to a cascade of arrests and seizures of marijuana. Those apprehended include Jerripotula Tataji, Jerripotula Ramana, Korra Chiranjeevi, Adi Raju Naidu, Jana Durga Prasad, Adhikari Kurma Rao and Nilapu Shiva. Efforts are underway to catch the others involved.
Further investigations led to arrest of Sheikh Mohammed Abbas and his assistant Sirajuddin from Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu as recipients of the contraband.
Unravelling of the intricate web continued with Abbas revealing his dealings with Amuda and Kunal from Borivali in Mumbai's suburbs.
Investigating authorities have seized a Tata Innova and a Swift Dezire, apart from multiple cell phones associated with the illegal operation.
II Town police have registered a case under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
