The accused has been identified as A. Dinesh Kumar, 32, of Katpadi village in Vellore district of Tamil Nadu.

TIRUPATI: The sleuths of Chittoor district police division on Friday recovered seven stolen cars worth approximately Rs 70 lakh and took one person into custody near Andhra Pradesh-Karnataka border at Palamaner. The accused has been identified as A. Dinesh Kumar, 32, of Katpadi village in Vellore district of Tamil Nadu.

Revealing the details to mediapersons at Chittoor, SP Vikrant Patil said, as the complaints relating to stolen vehicles had increased in the district, Palamaner in-charge DSP Ram Kumar and other sleuths had launched an extensive search operation at Palamaner, close to AP-Karnataka border on Friday morning.

“During the search operation that was held near the Dandapalle crossing on the outskirts of Palamaner, our team sighted seven vehicles approaching towards them like a convoy. The drivers halted the vehicles at a distance on noticing the police and tried to flee. The police, who chased them, nabbed one of the drivers identified as Dinesh Kumar, while the remaining managed to escape,” he explained.

Meanwhile, upon questioning, Dinesh Kumar confessed that they all belonged to an inter-state car lifting gang, who stole cars in AP, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. They sold the stolen cars to a second hand car dealer Rupesh Kothari of Chennai.

It may be recalled that the Chittoor police had recently arrested the leader of the gang Parameswaran of Madurai near V. Kota in Chittoor district.
