Chennai: Mother, daughter among 4 held for robbery' drama

Chennai: Four persons, including a mother-daughter duo, were arrested by the police on Thursday for enacting a drama claiming to have been victims of armed robbery in their house in Mathur near Madhavaram two months ago. The cash was Deepavali chit fund amount collected from neighbours. On October 10, P. Amudha (45) approached the Madhavaram Milk Colony police claiming that she and her mother A. Nagammal (70) were alone at home when an armed gang tied them up and robbed their house. Police, who were investigating the case, took statements from the relatives and the victims and over time found that many statements were contradictory. Meanwhile, Amudha was interrogated again by a special team and she spilled the beans about the drama.

“The family had hid the cash and enacted a drama,” an investigating officer said. Following investigations, police arrested Amudha (45), A Nagammal (70) of Mathur and their relatives, U. Udhayakumar (38) and G. Gandhiraj (29) of Red Hills.The four of them were produced before a magistrate and remanded to judicial custody.
