Telangana: Bihar natives die in gas explosion

All four of them who were inside the room were caught in the sudden fire.

Hyderabad: Three persons from Bihar, who sustained severe burns in a fire caused by a gas leakage while cooking, died on Tuesday. The three young men — 19-year-old Deepak, 20-year-old Deepak Kumar and 19-year-old Nandan — worked for Andhra Cylinders located in Patancheru mandal. Their roommate, Ramkumar, 19, who also suffered burns is said to be critical.

According to the police, the men had been working in the company for the past few years and had recently shifted to a room near the company. On November 2, they returned to their room from work, and Deepak started preparing dinner. When he lit the stove, there was a sudden blow-out with a loud noise and all four of them who were inside the room were caught in the sudden fire that erupted. They tried to run out of the room, but the blow-out was massive and they were trapped inside.

It is surmised that the gas from the stove had been leaking and since there was no proper ventilation in the room, the gas accumulated and was ignited when the stove was lit. Workers residing in neighbouring houses alerted the police and ambulance service. The men were taken to a nearby hospital and from there to Gandhi Hospital. All four sustained more than 85 per cent burns. Deepak, Deepak Kumar and Nandal succumbed on Tuesday, while Ramkumar continues to be critical and is under observation for the next 48 hours. A case for suspicious death has been registered and is being investigated.
