KANNUR: A tribal girl, who is a plus one student from Kottiyur, has been admitted to the Government Medical College hospital, Kozhikode after a suicide bid. A counsellor at her school alleged that she was abused by men including her classmates. However, the police dismisses the claims and said that the investigation was in the preliminary stages.
The incident took place almost a month ago and the girl had received counselling, where she allegedly disclosed the incident. A few people were taken into custody for interrogation. However, the police did not reveal their names, saying that many of the rumours regarding the case were baseless and would affect those who were innocent.
After recording the statement of the doctor, the District police chief Sanjay Kumar Gurudin said that the police was yet to ascertain whether there was penetrative sex warranting the invocation of rape charges but confirmed sexual abuse. He admitted that four people were taken into custody, but their involvement was not yet confirmed.
