Meanwhile, the Youth Congress and BJP leaders alleged that the police was not taking any action on their demand

Thrissur: Thrissur Range IG M. R. Ajith Kumar on Monday suspended Peramangalam CI M. V. Manikandan, facing allegations of ill-treating the Wadakkanchery gangrape victim and forcing her to change her statement, pending inquiry. Thrissur city police commissioner J. Himendranath told DC that Palakkad SP A. Srinivas had conducted a preliminary investigation and the action was on its basis.

‘Police Delaying Inquiry Report
Meanwhile, the Youth Congress and BJP leaders alleged that the police was not taking any action on their demand that CPM district secretary K. Radhakrishnan be booked for naming the victim, a punishable offence. They said they had submitted the CD of the visuals of Mr Radhakrishnan uttering the name of the victim and her husband in public, but the inquiry and registration of the case were unnecessarily delayed.

Special Branch ACP P. B. Baburaj had on Saturday told DC that he would be conducting an investigation into the complaints the city police commissioner received from YC president Dean Kuriakose and BJP district president A. Nagesh and he would be submitting the report to the commissioner on Monday morning.

But Mr Himendranath on Monday evening said the inquiry was not yet complete. “I had asked to him finish the investigation at the earliest, and I am expecting it to be over in a couple of days,” he told DC. KPCC general secretary Lathika Subash also led a protest march of Mahila Congress to the Thrissur Range IG office demanding a case registered against Mr Radhakrishnan.
