Bengaluru: Man gets 7-year jail for raping minor

Despite the girl tried to resist him, he sexually abused her.

Bengaluru: A 28-year-old married man, who raped a minor girl after promising to marry her, has been sentenced to seven years’ simple imprisonment by the 51st City Civil and Sessions Court.

Hanumantha, who hails from Lingasugur in Raichur, was a construction worker and was 24 years old when he committed the crime in the Madiwala police limits in July 2012.

The minor girl, who was 17 then, also hailed from Lingasugur and was a construction worker. Both the convict and the survivor were living in sheds at a construction site in Mangammanapalya near Bommanahalli.

On July 1, 2012, Hanumantha allegedly promised her that he would get her a job that could get her better wages and took her to an under-construction site. There he promised to marry her and tried to rape her. Despite the girl tried to resist him, he sexually abused her.

Then he took the girl to his Lingasugur, where he repeatedly raped her for over 15 days. The girl’s elder brother filed a missing complaint with the Madiwala police, who traced and arrested the accused, while rescuing the victim.

The Madiwala police filed the chargesheet after investigation. Public Prosecutor M.N. Varad argued on behalf of the government. The 51st City Civil and Sessions Judge B.S. Rekha found the accused guilty and sentenced him to seven years’ rigorous imprisonment with a penalty of Rs 5,000.
