Fake challan scam-hit will have to pay deficit stamp duty

Authorities had taken up verification of documents registered from April 1, 2020 to July 31, 2021. Majority of the documents were verified

VIJAYAWADA: Following the Rs 8 crore fake challans’ scam in payment of stamp duty for registering properties, registration and stamps authorities have started identifying documents related to the fake challans. Such document holders will have to pay the deficit amount in stamp duty. The amount of deficit will be posted in the index of encumbrance certificate.

Authorities have already taken up verification of documents registered from April 1, 2020 to July 31, 2021. Majority of the documents have been verified. On an average, about 17 lakh documents are registered with the department every year.

A senior official of registration and stamps said, “It is the responsibility of property buyers to ensure payment of appropriate stamp duty to the department. In case he or she has failed to pay duty for whatever reason, they will have to pay the deficit stamp duty for making the document of property registration legally valid.”

Officials say that a good number of property buyers have started paying their deficit amounts of stamp duty.

Meanwhile, the National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC) has appointed Rudrabhishek Enterprises Private Ltd. (REPL) to provide comprehensive architectural and engineering consultancy services for development of the AP State Guest House with commercial complex at Vijayawada under “Mission Build AP” of the state government.

REPL vice president Satish Sehta said they will conduct various surveys and prepare master plan, concept designs, drawings, DPR and walkthroughs. REPL will also assist in coordination and management of the bid process. Sehta said the time period for completion of the project is 24 months.

The State Guest House will have a built up area of approximately 1 lakh sq. ft on a 3.26 acre property located in Vijayawada under AP Land Monetisation. The commercial complex will be of about 2.5 lakh sq. ft at. The guest house will have a unique and inspiring space to work, rest, and rejuvenate through recreational activities. The campus will have an integrated road network with parking facilities.

The project scope also includes green building certification / GRIHA features in its design.
