Tamil Nadu: Hunt on for jewel shop guard who fled with cash

The suspect, Ayodhyanath Yadav, is a native of Uttar Pradesh, and a team is on its way to the northern state, police sources said.

Chennai: Police have launched hunt for a security guard employed at a jewellery showroom in T Nagar who allegedly has escaped with a cash bag from the showroom on Thursday.

The suspect, Ayodhyanath Yadav, is a native of Uttar Pradesh, and a team is on its way to the northern state, police sources said. Police investigations revealed that cashier of Velachery branch of the showroom, Radhakrishnan, had transported several lakhs of cash from their head office in Bengaluru.

He was told to hand over the cash to the showroom manager in T Nagar. Radhakrishnan met the security guard at the T Nagar branch. The duo had reportedly worked together earlier and Yadav was transferred to T Nagar recently.

“The guard enquired Radhakrishnan about his visit and when he told about the cash, the guard offered to collect and hand it over to the in-charge. Since, he has been with the company for a long time, the cashier didn’t suspect anything and handed over the cash bag to him,” a police officer said.

However, a few hours later, Radhakrishnan called up the T Nagar branch to check if they had received the cash and was shocked to hear that they didn’t get the bag. Soon, it was found that the guard had escaped with the cash bag after which they approached the local police. Police have alerted railway stations in the state and have launched a hunt for the absconding security guard.
