Chennai: Angry with RTO officials, man threatens suicide
Chennai: Irate over RTO officials making him run from pillar to post to process files to get a new driving licence, an auto driver threatened suicide by climbing onto a 60 feet mobile phone tower in Thiruvanmiyur on Thursday.
Muthukumar, an auto driver and a resident of Avvai Nagar here was visiting the RTO office in Thiruvanmiyur everyday to get a fresh driving license as rules now make it mandatory for vehicle owners to carry driving licences.
However, officials kept sending him back to return on another day. Enraged over this, Muthukumar took a bottle of petrol from his auto and climbed a tower nearby. Public informed the police and fire and rescue service personnel who rushed to the scene.
After an hour of talks and pacifying, Muthukumar was brought down by the fire personnel. Police assisted the auto driver in processing papers to get his new driving licence.
