Hyderabad: Constable watched as man hit sub-inspector in police station

Sub-inspector Prasada Rao and constable Kiran Kumar were sorting out a feud between two people.

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad police commissioner has transferred an SI after a video showing an angry suspect choking and hitting him at the Bhavaninagar police station on Monday evening surfaced on social media.

Sub-inspector Prasada Rao and constable Kiran Kumar were sorting out a feud between two people. One of them, Syed Bin Mohammad, 26, from Barkas, started arguing with the cops. A video shot by one of the cops showed Syed choking the SI with his left hand. He also hit the SI once while the latter sat on a chair.

The constable who was near the suspect was seen pacifying the accused instead of pulling him away. The suspect was allegedly drunk and angry with the cops for taking him to the police station.

Police booked him for assaulting a police officer on duty and another case for assaulting a civilian. A rowdy-sheet has been opened against him.

Police commissioner M. Mahender Reddy issued an order attaching the two cops to headquarters. “In view of the lenient act exhibited by the SI and the constable, they have been attached to Hyderabad commissionerate.

Additional inspector P. Karunakar Reddy of the Bhavaninagar police has been served a charge memo. Police will not tolerate criminal acts in police stations and stringent action will be taken,” said south zone DCP V. Satya Narayana.
