Hyderabad: A three-year-old girl went into a coma after her father beat her with a ladle at their house in Saifabad on Saturday night, police said on Sunday. Police said that accused Basith Khan, a father of four girls, thrashed his third daughter after accusing her of wasting water in the washroom. Fatima, who sustained a head injury, suffered internal bleeding and went into a comatose state.
Police said Basith Khan is an autorickshaw driver and the family stays at AC Guards in Saifabad. “The mother, Sana Fatima, is eight month pregnant with their fifth child. Khan was allegedly frustrated with having four girl children and his financial constraints,” said the police.
On Saturday evening, when all the family members were at the house, Basith accused Sakina of being in the washroom for long. “Basith picked up a steel ladle from the kitchen, went to the washroom and hit the girl on her head. Her mother tried to stop Basith but he continued to hit the girl. Sana managed to take the child to the bedroom and noticed froth coming out of the mouth and rushed her to Osmania General Hospital late on Saturday night,” explained the police
Doctors said the child suffered serious internal injuries on her head. She is kept on a ventilator and her condition is said to be critical.
Upon receiving information, the Saifabad police reached the hospital and took a statement from Sana and booked a case of attempt to murder and under the Juvenile Justice Act against Khan.
“Sana said in her statement that Khan had a history of beating the girl after accusing her of troubling and disobeying him. A case was booked and we have taken him into custody to place him under arrest,” police said.
