Basar police registered a case against assistant professor Ravi Varala under IPC Sections 420 (cheating), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidatin) and 409 (criminal breach of trust by public servant) following the complaint lodged by administration officer Srihari of Basar IIIT.

NIRMAL: Students of Basar IIIT and members of women organisations staged a protest alleging that an assistant professor was harassing girl students and sending messages seeking sexual favors in return to get them passed in the subjects they had failed.

Students alleged that the assistant professor from the chemistry department had sent a message to nearly 20 girls asking them to come to his house with a promise to them them passed. Varala targeted students who had failed, they said.
