Bengaluru: Two post fake ads on OLX to dupe people, held
Bengaluru: Two fraudsters who posted a fake advertisement on OLX and cheated a person have been arrested by the Cyber Crime and CCB police.
The accused have been identified as Naveen Kumar, 30, of Kundapura in Udupi, and Manu, 38, of Subramanyapura in Uttarahalli.
Police said the complainant in the case came across an advertisement of a Maruti Ertiga for sale on OLX website. As he was interested, he contacted the phone number given in the advertisement.
The person, who claimed to be the owner of the car, told that the car was parked in the airport parking lot from many days and asked the complainant to clear the parking fees and transfer Rs 92,900 to his friend's bank account. Trusting him the complainant transferred money to the bank account number given by the accused.
"As per the car owner's instruction, the complainant went to the airport to get the vehicle. After reaching there, he tried contacting the owner over the phone. But the phone was switched off and after repeated calls the complainant realised that he has been duped and filed a complaint. Based on the details provided by the complainant, both the accused were nabbed at K. R. Market, where they worked," the police said.
Investigations revealed that the duo had created fake accounts on OLX website and posted photos of vehicles and lured people by quoting low price. They had procured a few SIM cards by providing fake identity proofs and quoted those phone numbers along with the advertisement.
Once they got the money to their bank account, they used to stop using that SIM, so that the police could not trace them. Three SIM cards and other documents were seized from the arrested people, the police added.
