According to police, two conmen used different names and documents in banks to get credit cards and purchased expensive goods.

Bengaluru: Two conmen landed in the police net for duping various banks of Rs 25 lakhs by getting credit cards on fake documents.

The sleuths of cyber crime police arrested Narien Jaipal (37), a resident of Sahakar Nagar and hailing from Thiruvananthapuram, and Abubakar K. (39), who is from Dakshina Kannada, and recovered gold ornaments worth Rs 25 lakh, household items and fake documents from them.

According to police, they used different names and documents in banks to get credit cards and purchased expensive goods.

“Their modus operandi was to prepare fake documents and support them with fake identity cards. After getting the credit card, the duo made small purchases and cleared dues within the due date, which helped them increase the credit limit. Once the limit was increased, they would purchase gold and other expensive items till the card limit was exhausted and then discard the card. They would also discontinue using the mobile numbers given at the time of taking the credit card,” the police said.

The conmen used fake letterheads of companies and fake salary slips to get the credit cards. Police finally caught them based on CCTV footages obtained from shops.
