Spat at Metro station: 4 arrested, freed
Bengaluru: Following the ugly fight between the Karnataka State Industrial Security Force (KSISF) policemen and Namma Metro staff, the police have arrested two people from each group based on complaint and counter complaint.
Rakesh, a maintenance staffer with BMRCL, and Harish Kumar, Station Controller of the Visvesvaraya Metro Station, were arrested based on a complaint filed by KSISF constable Anand Guddad. Meanwhile, the complainant Mr Guddad and another constable Lakshman were also arrested based on the counter-complaint filed by accused Rakesh. Both had filed complaints with the Halasuru Gate police after the incident on Thursday.
Mr Guddad stated in his complaint that while he was on security check duty at the Metro station, there was a woman police constable Bharathi Badakambi. Around 6.15 am, accused Rakesh who entered the station refused to undergo security check and when the woman constable asked him, he allegedly hurled filthy abuses at her. When Mr Guddad intervened and asked Rakesh to undergo the security check, he abused the complainant and also allegedly tried to assault him.
Around 9.30 am, Rakesh, Harish Kumar and other Metro staff picked up a fight with the constable and allegedly assaulted him. When his colleague Lakshman and Bharathi intervened, they were also allegedly assaulted, the complaint stated. Based on this Rakesh and Harish Kumar were arrested.
Meanwhile, Rakesh also filed a complaint against constables Guddad and Lakshman for allegedly assaulting him, following which the duo was arrested. “There is case and counter-case from both sides and both are registered. Two staffers from Metro are arrested out of the 20 people against whom the complaint is registered. Two constables from KSISF are also arrested on the complaint of the Metro staffer,” said Additional Commissioner of Police (East) Hemant Nimbalkar.
All the four arrested were produced before a court and released after they were granted bail, the police said.
Cops trying to protect colleague?
It is alleged that the police are trying to shield the policemen involved in the spat and have not filed an FIR against them. A Metro staffer, on condition of anonymity, said that the police had not initiated action against the policemen, especially Anand Guddad, who allegedly first triggered the entire episode by slapping and kicking Rakesh. However, the police denied the allegations and said the accused policemen were arrested.
