National Democratic Front of Bodoland ultras lodged in Coimbatore central jail
COIMBATORE: Two suspected militants of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB), who were picked up by the Army intelligence wing here, were remanded to judicial custody till July 21 and subsequently lodged at the Coimbatore Central Prison on Friday. Acting on information revealed by some suspected terrorists who were arrested recently in Delhi in connection with the massacre that took place at Sonitpur in Assam on December 23, 2016, Army intelligence wing personnel have been camping in Coimbatore for over a week.
After establishing the presence of the extremists, they, in coordination with local police arrested Bikaram Basumatary, 32, and Upaen Bushan Basumatary, 41, from a poultry farm near Sulur-Sithanaickenpatty late on Thursday night. The two were taken to Kinathukadavu police station where they were grilled till Friday early morning. According to police sources, the duo belonged to the terror outfit, National Democratic Front of Bodoland (Songbijit faction) in Kohima and played a role in the recent killings in Assam.
They were staying in the private poultry farm near Sithanaickenpatty and working there for the past three years. They were presented before Sulur magistrate Shri. Vediyappan, who remanded them till July 21. They are likely to be taken to Assam for enquiries, sources added.
