Attingal police suspect suicide in death of Yuva Morcha activist
Thiruvananthapuram: Attingal police who verified the WhatsApp chats of a Yuva Morcha leader who died of burns injuries now suspects the death to be a case of suicide. Yuva Morcha’s Palakkad district secretary Sajin Raj, 31, of Ottappalam was found burnt beside his rented car at Mamom near Attingal on Thursday. Though the police initially suspected foul play in the death, the investigation now points to a woman hailing from Thrissur with whom the police suspects he was romantically involved. She is also suspected to have taken a Rs 3-lakh loan from him.
The police found a note inside the car which mentioned ‘Ambili cheated me”. It also mentions about money and a temple’s name. Mysteriously, Raj had told some of the staffers of the hospital where he was admitted with burn injuries that he was set on fire by two people. This was recorded in FIR though he could not give any statement to the magistrate.
“We suspect that he said so because he was embarrassed to say that he attempted suicide. It is unknown whether it was a financial matter that triggered the suicide,” an officer said. The car belongs to a native of Thiruvallam in capital who rented it for Rs 15,000 per month. The police which verified CCTV visuals in toll plazas confirmed that no one was travelling along with the deceased as he drove to the capital.
