Police said that soon after the murder was reported, teams were formed to nab the assailants.

Bengaluru: Two murder case accused, who attacked policemen twice when they tried to nab them, were shot at and caught by the East division police in the early hours of Friday. Two policemen sustained stab injuries in the incident as the assailants attacked them with dagger.

The arrested have been identified as Santosh and Shyam, both aged around 22 years and residents of Laggere.

Santosh hails from Bhadravathi in Shivamogga while Shyam hails from Raichur. They have been charged with murdering Ranjith, 28, a rowdy sheeter, at a cattle shelter in Frazer Town on Wednesday night.

Police said that soon after the murder was reported, teams were formed to nab the assailants. As the investigations progressed, the police got a video of the incident shot by a person. In the video, the assailants were seen stabbing Ranjith multiple times and also their faces were identifiable.

More information was gathered about the assailants and it was learnt that they were at Krishnagiri in Tamil Nadu.

“Late in the night, they returned to Bengaluru with a plan to return to their village. There was a credible information that they were near D.J. Halli water tank and the staff of the DCP East Squad rushed to nab them. Around 4.15 am, they were intercepted and when Head Constable Srinivas tried to catch them, they attacked him with a dagger and sped away on their bike. But the police team chased them and stopped them at a market behind Sri Rama Temple in K.G. Halli. Again, they threw chilli powder on another Head Constable Shashidhar and attacked him with a dagger,” a policeman, who was part of the operation, narrated.

"At this point, Hennur police inspector Srinivas and ASI Ravi opened fire in the air and as the accused still tried to attack policemen, they were shot at. Both sustained bullet injuries in their left legs and were shifted to hospital. The assailants were also carrying a fake pistol with them and it was seized," he added.

The police are, however, yet to question the accused to know the reason for murdering Ranjith.
