Karnataka: 3 unnatural deaths were actually murders!
Bengaluru: True to the famous saying that there is no such thing as a perfect crime, the Central Crime Branch (CCB) sleuths have arrested seven people involved in three murders cases, which took place years ago and were closed as Unnatural Death Report (UDR).
Interestingly, in all the three murder cases, the victims were strangulated to death and the bodies were later thrown on the railway track near Kengeri railway station, in order to make it appear as accidental death or suicide. The police too failed to check the murder angle.
However, it later turned out that all the three victims were murdered and the cases were interlinked. In 2014, the police found a body on a railway track between Kengeri and Hejjala. It was later identified as Suresh, as his wife Munirathna had filed a missing complaint.
Munirathna told police that her husband was murdered by a rival gang. The police recently reopened the case, which was handed over to CCB. During the investigation the police arrested seven people Shekar, Venkatesh, Kumar, Ganesh, Nagendra, Raju and Nagendra, all residents of Kengeri, for murdering Suresh. When interrogated, the accused confessed to killing Suresh and two others in 2002 and 2001.
How it unfolded?
The first murder took place in 2001, when one of the accused Venkatesh, along with Shekhar and Kumar, killed Yallapa. Yallapa was married to Venkatesh’s girlfriend and was harassing her. The gang took Yallappa on Kengeri outskirts, killed him and threw the body on the railway track. The railway police discovered the body, but were not able to identify the victim. The case was later closed as UDR.
Later in 2002, Venkatesh’s girlfriend fell in love with one Ramesh.
Angered by this, Venkatesh along with Shekhar, Kumar, Nagendra and Raja and two others murdered Ramesh in Kengeri and dumped the body on the railway track.
Nearly 12 years later In 2014, Ramesh’s brother Suresh found that he was murdered and Venkatesh and Shekhar were behind the crime. However, he was not aware that Nagendra and Ganesh were also involved in the killing. He unknowingly approached them to hatch a plan to kill Shekhar.
The duo alerted Shekhar about the plan, following which Shekhar decided to kill Suresh.
On the fateful day, Shekhar had instructed Nagendra and Ganesh to call Suresh at Kengeri for a party. When Suresh arrived he was killed by Shekhar, Nagendra and Ganesh and the body was dumped on the railway track.
Police said the gang was also involved in other murder cases in 2003 and 2013. Some of the gang members had served jail terms for the same.
