Khammam: A two-member gang who cheated gullible persons coming to ATMs was on Tuesday. Sudanaboina Venkatesh and Kammapati Nagaiah, residents of Suryapet, deceived illiterates who used to come to ATMs to withdraw money.
The duo, who worked as autorickshaw drivers, stole money for drinks. The two used to wait at ATMs and enter when illiterates came. They used to offer help to withdraw money.
First, they make a balance enquiry. After that they find the PIN and help in withdrawing money. After that they hand over duplicate ATM cards. Venkatesh used the technique on May 9 at an SBH ATM in Khammam.
The duo were arrested at Gandhi Chowk on Tuesday while they were cheating another customer. They obtained the ATM card of a woman who came to the centre. They withdrew Rs 40,000 from different ATM centres in Suryapet and Nakirekal.
